Governor Luis Fortuño law signed in December 191 as the "Act to prohibit the retention, storage and custody of certified copies of birth certificates." The Act provides that any certificate to be issued before 1 July this year, will be void from that date. However, the Vital Records issue a new format that seeks to prevent use in the street or stolen certificates are being used for identity theft.
To temper the law, said the official, the Population Registry will guide the public that no agency can seize the original copy of the certificate.

What a better way to start your holiday season than by giving the gift of life. The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year. So most of our regular donors don’t come out and donate because it’s a day off, but the need for blood and blood by products does not take a day off.
Many of our community members unfortunately will spend their holidays hospitalized and many will require blood, platelet or plasma transfusions. To meet their need we need donors to give to during the upcoming holiday season.

RALEIGH — The North Carolina Division of Public Health has issued a fish consumption advisory for Badin Lake between Stanly and Montgomery counties. Elevated levels of PCBs have been found in large mouth bass and catfish in Badin Lake.
As statewide and regional mercury advisories for these fish have been in place since 2006, Public Health officials’ fish consumption advice will not change.
